What are the health risks associated with common pests?

Ticks: Lyme disease, Rocky Mountain spotted fever
Fleas: Dermatitis, murine typhus and bubonic plague
Rodents: Hantavirus Pulmonary syndrome, murine typhus, salmonella and rat-bite fever

Can I do my own pest control?
In many cases, yes, but only if you are willing to invest the time, effort and expense necessary to gather needed information and do what’s necessary to solve your pest problems. Anybody can spray pesticides, but proper pest control often involves much more. Pest control of some pests, such as bees and wasps, may be too dangerous for you to risk doing yourself. Other pests, such as borers, require specialized knowledge and equipment, and are best left to professionals.
Are the materials you use safe?
All pesticides are inherently poisonous and our certified technicians are trained to handle them with respect to human safety and the environment. Pestwise NZ believes strongly in choosing the safest approach to solving each pest occurrence, and of course, all materials we use are registered with the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). None of the pesticides we use have any carcinogenic effects.
Are the chemicals used safe around children & pets?
Yes, as long as all instructions and advice left by the Pest Control Officer are adhered to. We always take care when laying poisons to ensure that we minimise the risk of pets and other non-target animals taking the poison. In some cases we will not lay poison if the risk is too high. We will require the home owners to keep pets & children away from poisons & or insecticides used.
Do you utilize any non-chemical methods of control?
Pestwise NZ practices Integrated Pest Management (IPM) which utilizes many non-chemical control techniques such as sanitation, harbourage reduction, exclusion, sealing, mechanical controls and environmental management.
What is Integrated Pest Management (IPM)?
Integrated Pest Management, or IPM, is an environmentally responsible approach to pest management that takes advantage of all pest management options. At the most basic level, IPM practitioners recognize that pests seek habitats that provide their essential needs for survival, such as food, water and shelter. By removing some of these basic elements, or by blocking access to them, IPM programs can impose a significant degree of control over pests before chemical pesticides are employed.
Is Pestwise NZ locally owned?
Yes, Pestwise New Zealand Limited is 100% locally owned & all the technicians carry NZ qualification & are registered with Pest Management Association of NZ .
